by GmatKiss » Tue Aug 23, 2011 5:01 am
Because of the enormous research and development expenditures required to survive in the electronics industry,
an industry marked by rapid innovation and volatile demand, such firms tend to be very large.
A. to survive
B. of firms to survive
C. for surviving
D. for survival
E. for firms' survival

Can some one explain in detail!

I will go with B here.

This is a very good question which reiterates the need to read the complete Sentence before looking at the choices. The last part of the sentence
such firms tend to be very large => indicates that there should be a direct reference to firms. required of <Noun> to is an awkward sounding but correct idiom.
1) Because of the high amount of investment that is required to survive, firms depend on public's money.

2) becuase of the high amount of investment that is required for a firm to survive, such firms shall depend on public's money.
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..
