Request for Profile Evaluation

by Vinita Maheshwari » Sat Dec 28, 2019 10:37 am
Hi,

I am planning to apply for MS/MBA(STEM) programs in the USA. It would be great if you can provide feedback on my profile.

My profile synopsis:-

Work Experience:
2 years of work experience in an Investment bank as a Senior consultant
2.5 years of work experience in an Insurance company as a Process lead

Educational Background:-
Chartered Accountant, India
Chartered Financial Analyst [CFA Institute USA]
Bachelor of Commerce [ GPA -3.3]
Secured 2nd position in State in senior secondary

GMAT: 640
TOEFL: 103

I have taught CFA Level 1 students in India.
I hold the capital market certification from D&B.
I am enrolled for the 4 months Immersive Financial Analytics course at UC Berkeley extension starting Jan'20.

Post-MBA goals: I would like to work in an Investment bank considering my qualifications and work experience.

Kindly advise me on the range of colleges I can target considering my current GMAT score and profile.

Thank you very much for taking out time to read this and providing input.

Have a good day!

Hi Vinita,
Thanks for reaching out to us. You are at a good experience level to pursue an MS or MBA and your goals seem to be a logical outgrowth of your prior experience. Academically, you have a pretty strong GPA, and the CA / CFA certifications. Your GMAT is on the low side for top MBA programs in the US, so I'm not sure if retaking is possible. Note that some investment banks may also use GMAT as a factor in recruiting later on, so it may be in your best interest to maximize that score now.

In terms of target programs, I know the MBA programs at Purdue, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Rochester and Wisconsin all have STEM certification (applicable to certain majors/specializations). If you were able to increase your GMAT, Duke and USC also have them and might be options. If you're open to an MS in Finance program (more specialized) I would check out Boston College, SMU Cox, Ohio State.

Hope those are helpful in getting your target list started!
