by vishals81 » Tue May 02, 2006 3:50 am
Dear Stacy my name is Vishal .I have done my B.E Computer Engineering from the University of Pune.I have secured 59.60 percent(Higher Second Class)in my final year.I worked for 10 months for a US based company as a consultant from home. Now Iam planning to pursue my MSc in Management.I have recieved an admit from the University Of Cranfield(Unied Kingdom) for the MSc Finance and Management Course this Sep 2006.Since down the line I would like to pursue an MBA I want to make my management studies foundation strong.Since a good 2-3 years work ex is needed to apply in the top business schools I had no option but to choose this kind of a program.Any suggestions?

Regards,

Vishal

Hi Vishal,
I am not completely clear on your question, but I will offer some thoughts related to your plans. Actual work experience will be much more highly valued by an MBA admissions commitee than your MSc in Management degree. Make sure that this degree is a necessary step in your career plans, since you will be covering a lot of the same material when you earn your MBA. The MBA adcomm may wonder why you are pursuing a third degree, especially one with so many repetitive courses. More degrees are not necessarily better, unless they all support a unified story.

Also I wanted to know a little more about colleges offering an HSMP(Highly Skilled Migrant Program) and how would that help me?

My knowledge of the HSMP is limited, but my understanding is that it can help you move to the UK. I don't see this helping you with MBA admissions unless it is part of your strategy to work in the UK before applying. Certainly this would not be a necessary step. Quality work experience will help your profile, regardless of location.
