In the rectangular coordinate system above, the area ∆PQR is what fraction of the area of ∆LMN?

A 1/9

B 1/8

C 1/6

D 1/5

E 1/3

Stuck on this one.

Base of ∆PQR = 10-6 = 4 [only look at the values of x axis of points P & R]
Height of ∆PQR = 4 [look at the value of y axis of point Q]

Area of ∆PQR = 1/2 * 4 * 4 = 8

Similarly, you can calculate the area of ∆LMN

Area of ∆LMN = 1/2 * 12 * 12 = 72

Fraction = 8/72 = 1/9

Hope this helps.
