Question about the paper

by Tame the CAT » Sat Mar 17, 2007 5:29 am
I know they initially give a set number out and if you want more you must raise your hand and give up the used paper in order to get a fresh set.

My question is, how long does this process take? upto half a minute? seconds? Just curious!!!

That's an interesting question.

I don't know myself because I took the test prior to this "new paper." But I can say that I've never heard anyone complaining about the time it took to retrieve additional paper, after taking the test.

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this.

When I took the exam, it took like 10 seconds.. you raise your hand, the proctor, sitting behind a glass window, will see you and come with a clean slate of paper.

Very quick in my opinion!

Iwas going to take the exam again today.. but I got into a car accident (snowed in NJ) on the way to the exam so I couldnt take it.. I hope GMAT will allow me to take the exam in 2 weeks rather than wait 31 days

Thanks Eric

I am ok. I didn't hit anyone thank God, front left bumper is good, but thats about it.

Sad thing is that I was SO pumped for this exam. I have been scoring well on my Gmat prep and MGMAT practice exams - I just wanted to get the exam done and over with.. and 10 minutes from the testing center, I get into a car accident!! I even wanted to ask the cop if he could drop me off while they sort everything out

Now, I am going to wait till Monday and see what GMAC says.

Glad to hear you're okay, Maxim--yeah, I would be tempted to hitch a ride to the test center as well if I were in your shoes! :)

I don't see why it would be a problem to re-schedule within the month. Since you didn't show up for the test, I think that it doesn't count against you.

Good luck!

I think the people that work for the GMAC should use their critical reasoning abilities and let you take the exam within a few weeks (pun intended)

Re: the scratch "paper" - 2 things:

1) You can switch to a new booklet when you take your break between the math and verbal sections, so do it then if you're worried about the time it will take

2) If you're in the middle of a section and you're at the top of your last page, raise your hand then to request the new packet. That way you can keep working if it takes a little while.

But, overall, they are really professional and handle these things quickly. Someone is constantly watching the room to see if anyone has any questions or problems.

Hope you get to take it soon!

Stacey, I am no where near ready. I am getting no better than 65% on the SC. I need to get above 85% and I have ways to go. I just completed Ch. 3 (verb mood and voice). I understand the subjunctive mood, passive versus active voice and the present and past perfect. But the thing that kills me is I do not know what I am doing with the idioms and such.

I hate SC. I have to take so many things under consideration. About 20% of the problems I get wrong, I had the right answer, second guess my initial choice and change it. I am still very unsure.

Oh, sorry - the "take it soon" comment was for maxim, who wasn't sure when s/he could take it again after missing the appointment.

Re: second-guessing yourself, my general rule is, I ONLY change an answer if I KNOW I did something wrong - I made an actual error that I can point to and I need to fix it. If I'm not sure, I never change it. (Statistically, you are more likely to be changing from wrong to wrong or from right to wrong than from wrong to right.)

Actually they dont hand out paper anymore as they switched to druy erase boards. They give a set of five and you're stuck with that for 4 hours.

They hand out laminated "paper" now, which is why I wrote that word in quotes in my earlier post. They are not dry erase "boards" - it is still the thickness of paper, except it has been laminated.

You are not limited to the initial 5 sheets they hand out, however. You can turn in a used booklet and get a new one at any time. But you will not have more than one booklet (consisting of 5 sheets) at one time.
