A brief background:
26/M/Canadian
GMAT: 760 (86%Q, 99%V, 6.0 AWA)
Undergrad: Bachelor of Commerce Co-op
GPA: 3.33 (3.55 final two years)
WE: 2.5 years full time (by september intake) in economic development, 1 year as a business analyst and another as a business development officer. Also I have 3 4-month work terms that I did not include in my work experience.
My goals are to use the MBA to move from my current position economic development at the regional level to a strategic position in economic development at the national level here in Canada. I believe I can make a compelling case as to why an MBA would be appropriate at this time etc.
The major issue with my application is that there is a 16-month gap in work experience due to a terrible decision to attend law school instead of continuing on with my career in business. Under instance familial pressure I decided to apply and attend law school. I strongly disliked it and performed poorly in my first year (failed 2 of 6 courses forced to retake the year). In my retake I decided to cut my losses and withdrew so that I could get back to work doing something I enjoyed and so to begin preparing for the GMAT. I am concerned about how the adcoms will handle my law school performance but I think I can make a strong case through my GMAT score and my undergraduate performance that my law school grades have less to do with intellect and aptitude and everything to do with not enjoying what I was doing.
Anyhow, HEC Paris is my first choice but I will also be applying to McGill, UofT, York, and UBC. If anyone can shed some light on my chances of admission it would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I'll be applying for round 2 (applications should be done by Dec7-10th
How are my chances at the top Canadian programs and HEC

As a minor update I am currently considering pushing my HEC application back to the January 2012 intake to be more competitive, but I havent made a final decision in that regard yet
