progresss!!!???? :(

by cooldude » Wed Sep 13, 2006 2:27 am
well i read somewhere that noone can teach gmat coz its test of ur iq and mind however i had a belief that hard wrk can change anything .......

but guysssssss :(
i feel like its true its really really hard to progress in the field of sentence correction which keeps my score down

initially before doing any prep
my accuracy was 2/3
well then i read spideys sahil amateur notes and kaplan grammar
then try to solved some sc and got an accuracy aroun 75%

a few days later means nowadays ,instead of getting 80% accuracy,i have fallen flatfacedly back to 70%

i study rules from above described sources and then try my hand at questions;is that a wrong way of studying sc?
is there ne1 who has got a 100% accuracy level from 60% in begining!!???
plz some suggest me how to improve  ,if one can :?:

Hi cooldude:

The GMAT is certainly not an intelligence test--you can definitely study for it and master it! Try not to feel too frustrated with your SC performance because this is something that you can improve.

Try to be more rigorous in the way you do your practice problems. When you do a set of SC problems, keep a log of your answers. When you've gone through the practice set, go through your log and mark off all your answers that were incorrect. Using the answer key, classify all the SC questions in your log (ex., idioms, parallelism, etc.), and be sure you understand the explanations for EVERY question you answered (right and wrong).

This method will help you to understand the types of questions you tend to get correct as well as the types of questions you tend to make errors. Being able to identify your weaknesses will help you to be more tactical with your SC studying, allowing you to identify specifically where you need to improve.

This strategy that I've proposed is very time consuming, but if you have the patience and diligence to do it, it will pay off for you.

Also, have you considered purchasing theManhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide? This book is considered the Bible of SC prep. I have heard of people going from a 50% hit rate to a 95%+ hit rate after using this textbook. Considering investing in it.

Best of luck!
