Initially started my career supporting business intelligence applications. Last year, I was developing framework for business intelligence products. Currently working in evaluating mobile business analytics apps. I planning to focus on Mobile & Social Media usage for the next few months.

I do realize that I belong to the "Indian IT Pool". Based on my profile will I be classified as typical? I do play a fair amount of sports, should I specialize in them before I need to apply (represent at a certain level) ?

Dude, do you THINK you fall in the general IT pool category? How many IT guys you know have done activities like you? You know you are different. Your profile looks good. But the way you posted the question is not helping much to assess your personality. Sorry if I am rude, I am trying to make a point that might eventually help you out.

HTH,

All the best.

lol... Honestly, people I come across in my office (Indian IT male, planning for an MBA) have given me a huge complex. I don't know how differentiated I am from the rest of the crowd. Almost everyone is into mobile and social media(I have never worked on that so far). I won't forgive myself if I cant convert the score. I have a few months time and I want to utilize it to develop or horne a few skills.

We perceive what we see. I might be wrong too.

You must be lucky to work at such a great place. So many achievers all around you. Trust me, I too work in a product based company(one of the best) and I don't feel the way you feel. That must be something.

Anyway, all the best with your application process. You have so many things to show or tell about in your esssays/interview. Just do it right, you should be able to make it :)

Which schools are you planning to apply? Your work exp. (or lack there of) might be an issue, but your recommendations and essays should offset that ...
