Profile Evaluation

by pf100 » Sun Apr 23, 2017 7:41 pm
Hi Team,

Thank you in advance for taking the time to review my profile!

I would like to know what my chances are for INSEAD and IE.

Here is my profile.
- Argentinean, Canadian, female, 26 (27 when I would start the MBA)
- 3.4, Industrial Engineering with a Minor in Business, University of Toronto
- 680, Q47, V35, 5.5 AWA, 8 IR
- 5 years of WE
- 1 year as a Process Business Analyst in a Top bank in Canada
- 4 years as a software consultant with a fortune 500 company. I have been promoted three times, from Analyst, to Consultant to Sr. Consultant. I have been leading projects for close to a year now. Projects range from 1 week to over 3 months and can be anywhere in North America. I travel 80% of the time. I manage teams of 1-4 people.
- I was involved all throughout university with the engineering discipline club and in my final year I was the Chair of that club. In my current job I am the lead of the mentorship program for any new consultants joining my company. This means I organize mentorship pairings for over 25 people per year. I also over see 18 different sessions that help new consultants integrate into the company (sessions include elevator pitches, site visits, methodology training, documentation training)
- I graduated 5th/76 with honours. I also received an award for my role of Chair of the Industrial Engineering Club which is awarded to a student who was dedicated to their discipline club and successfully improved it over the course of the their time at the university.
- I have lived in Argentina, Canada, and the US. I speak English and Spanish fluently and French conversationally.
- Goals after MBA (entrepreneur) are to take over my father's businesses in Argentina. In the short term start with some of the business development for a lot of land and turn it into a commercial and residential space and in the long term manage all of the businesses (including pizza stores and food storage warehouses).

I know my quant is a little on the low side since INSEAD wants 70% for both, but I hope my engineering degree offsets that.

Thanks!

Hey there!
Great to hear from you!
So a few thoughts here:
- Applying as a female candidate with management experience is always great! :) MBA programs LOVE women leaders, and you have some good leadership experience behind you.
- Likewise, coming from Argentina will likely play in your favor. There aren't that many applications coming in from Latin America and B-schools like diversity.
- In general if your goal is to lead the family business this can be a very good goal, but it depends on a) the size of the business b) it's success and market share c) your plans with what to do with it. Obviously the bigger the business the better.
- Given the uniqueness of your profile you would have a shot with your current GMAT, however since there is plenty of time, if you think you could do better, and especially if this was your first or second test, I would definitely recommend you consider retaking, as at this score, even 20-30 points more can make a BIIIIIG difference.

I hope this helps!!!

Hey!! Just wanted to share that I was admitted into INSEAD! The interviews were tough, they were both stone-faced! But in the end I got in! Second round for 18D.

Thanks!

Hi,

I will be applying to IIMA PGPX. I wanted to know how I can show the various profiles I have worked in, in the same organisation. Also I was talking to one of my friends who is a PGPX graduate, he suggested that having worked in different streams altogether, like in my case, substantially devalues the profile since I won't be considered having a good experience in any particular stream with 2-3 years in supply chain then a little bit in marketing and then a little in corporate strategy.

Following is the a brief history of my work experience.

GMAT - 670, IR4, AWA4
Work Ex - 8 years

Hero Motocorp Ltd. (India's largest two wheeler manufacturer) Feb, 2015 to Present.

a. Service Planning, Corporate Office, Oct, 2016 to Present.
b. Territory Manager- Service, Sales Marketing-Customer Care department, Feb, 2015 to Oct, 2016.

Tata Motors Ltd. (India's Largest automotive manufacturer) Sept, 2009 to Feb, 2015.

a. Customer Support Manager, Marketing-PVBU. Sept, 2013 to Feb, 2015
b. Manager, Vendor Development, Sourcing & Supply chain Department. Apr, 2012 to Sept, 2013.
c. Assistant Manager, Vendor Development, Sourcing & Supply chain Department. Sept, 2009 to Sept, 2013.

Bachelor of Technology - CGPA 6.94/10
High School (12th) - 72.4%
10th - 83.8%
