Profile Evaluation Request

by mholmes2101 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 10:12 am
Just want to see where I stack up at my top choices and what I can do to improve before applying. Appreciate the help!

Background

Work experience:
-1 year as a business operations analyst at Cox Enterprises' Automotive division in Atlanta (they own a number of companies like Kelly Blue Book, Autotrader, Manheim). Earned Lean Six Sigma green belt in this role
-2 years as a manager in the Financial Planning and Analysis department in the same company. Promoted to manager 3 years ahead of schedule for being recognized as a top performer. Manages 2 contractors and an intern. Works closely with leadership on strategic decision making.
-1 year as senior manager in FP&A by the time I would enroll in business school
-Internships include summer internship at same company where I currently work and a summer as a finance intern at a wealth management fund.

Extra curriculars:
-Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor
-Pro Bono business consultant at a social entrepreneurship-focused eCommerce retail store
-Half marathon participant in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. Raised $2000 for cancer research
-Finalist in my company's internal StartUp business plan event
-Liaison between my current company and a start-up non-profit whose goal it is to provide low-income teens with exposure to successful professionals.

Undergrad school/major: Emory, graduated 2014 (4 years of work experience upon grad school matriculation), Mathematics and Economics BA

Other education/coursework: Coursera Python certificate, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

Race/nationality: White

GMAT: Male

Stats
GMAT Score: 770 (50Q/46V/8IR/5AWA)
Undergrad GPA: 3.25 (Started out pre-med which did not go well, then started to do better once I switched majors, but suffered a family tragedy my senior year which further hurt my grades)

MBA Info
Goal of MBA: I want to use my automotive industry knowledge to move into a strategy role with a leader in the transportation tech space (Google, Apple, Tesla, Uber, Lyft, etc.). Knowing that's a narrow niche with high barriers to entry, I would also consider other corporate strategy/corporate development jobs
Target schools: Wharton, MIT, Kellogg, Yale, Duke, Ross, Emory (with scholarship)

NOTE: I had interviews at MIT, Kellogg and Haas when I applied last year and didn't get into any. Guessing years of experience was a big factor there. Thought that might be useful info. Since I last applied I've started volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and I'm on track for promotion to senior manager before I start applying (way younger than most people make senior manager at my company).
