I know this forum is for MBA mainly but as I will be applying based on my GMAT score to MIT Masters in SCM program couldn't find a better place for profile evaluation. Would really appreciate your inputs on the below profile:

GMAT Score : 710 (Quant: 49, Verbal: 36, IR: 8)
Nationality: Indian

Work experience: (India and Middle East)
> 9 years (3 years in Automobile Sector in India, 6 yrs in FMCG in Middle East - out of which 3 years with a global MNC)
> Currently at a managerial role in Demand and Supply Planning managing a team
> Size of Business managed - 200M USD

Education:
> B.E in Mechanical Engineering (74% with honors - in top 5 of the batch)
> MBA specialized in SCM (Gold Medalist - Batch topper with CGPA of 3.4/4)
> APICS CSCP certified (Certified Supply Chain Professional)

Extra curricular
> Adjunct Faculty in a B School for a term in 2015 - taught 2 courses in SC
> Qualified member of MENSA - Society of high IQ people (world's top 2%)


My major constraint is that I will be applying in the 3rd deadline this year so I know it is going to be tough. So would request your comments based on the profile strength for a 3rd deadline application.

What should I focus on in my SOP?
Should I retake GMAT for better score?
Does the designation of recommend-er matters or is it just the content which matters?
Is there any other good institute comparable to MIT that I should consider?

Consider the following to your queries and more ABCG:

1. Your overall profile looks pretty interesting and solid for the program. Yes, a 20+ point bump in GMAT will definitely help but may not be a deal breaker - so plan your available time prudently. R3 is always tricky, but no harm in trying I would say.
2. You should also explore other MIT SCM programs such as ZLOG program. Other than that, you can also explore MBA programs with good pedigree in Ops - depends on what your post-MBA plans really are.
3. The SoP details is really something we cannot comment on - depends on a deeper understanding of the overall profile and plan ahead. For recommendations, the post here may be worth reading.

Hi ABCG,

I am a current admit to the MIT SCM program. I shall be joining in August this year.

Your profile looks good to me; however, please don't bank on Round 3. I applied last year in Round 3 and fortunately got a deferred admit. For International students, R3 is not an option.

I would suggest, wait for a year and then apply in R1 for next year. You will surely make it.
