Hello!

Thanks for this awesome opportunity to reach out to you guys for your opinion. here are the details:

- German citizen, 29 years old
- Undergrad from TU Darmstadt in Germany in Mechanical & Processing Engineering (top 3 uni in Germany)with a 3.76 GPA
- Direct PhD from Virginia Tech with a 3.85 GPA
- I scored a 640 on the GMAT, Q44, V34. I really didn't do as well on the verbal part as I had hoped.
- 2.5 years of R&D engineering experience (after grad school) in industry with a US company.
- Perfectly Fluent in German, English and Farsi
- Received a scholarship for an exchange program for my senior year between TU Darmstadt and Virginia Tech.

My goal is to get accepted into the University of Chicago - Booth part time program. I don't see a whole lot of other options for since a) this school has it's focus on Finance (which is what I really want) and b) would allow me to keep my job while studying part time.

What do you say? Do I have a chance...?

Thanks,

P

Hey P,

I take it then, that your job is near Chicago? (or you can be placed there?)

And is that the ONLY part time program you are interested in?

Anyhow, your profile seems fine, and although a higher GMAT would feel better, still part-time programs can be pretty flexible when it comes to GMAT score, do it doesn't necessarily require a retake.

Other than that, if your job is sponsoring you, and is offering you a position when you return, that too will make things much easier for you,

Yes with some solid essays you have a chance. Almost 25% of their part time class is from engineering/research. Your GMAT is going to be on the lower end, but you are still competitive and your gpas are strong.

Will your company be sponsoring your studies? If so, that is always a great signal to the adcom that they see management potential in your future.

thank you so much for your quick and thorough responses! much appreciated.

So, yes, the reason I like Booth is that they are on top of their game in corp finance and my company has worked w them before. i could enroll in their weekend mba program and manage my mba that way.

your other question: yes they would definitely support me. to what extent is up for negotiation though.

thanks,

icareon
