Your profile is common for the top ten b schools according to most rankings. It probably makes sense to focus on schools below top tier as you apppear to be doing.

For top 10 schools I would encourage you to retake gmat, for the others it might be competitive (generally speaking aim to beat the average gmat of the schools to which you are applying).

Good luck!

Apologies for slow response from us.

Hi Meraj:

Thanks for sharing the profile.

Academics and test scores:

On GMAT your target score of 720 is competitive for most of the b-schools. Another 20-30 would place in comfortable situation for top 10 schools, considering competitive Indian male applicant pool.

Second, on the academics, your scores are average. You might support with the strengths in terms of the scores in complex courses, initiatives and engagements during the college, various papers/projects you have initiated and internships you have done (If any).

Work Experience and Strategy:

Good to know that you have worked with engineering firm. That helps you to stand out from rest of the Indian applications. From an AdCom perspective this would be a welcome profile. You have experience of working in large firm and have international experience; this does add value in the application. If you worked with large clients and if time you have stretched yourself to try your hands, these experiences would add to your advantage. This is a definelty a big plus and can work in your favor provided you can highlight the learning's and challenges you have overcome.

Recommendations:

You should try to get recommendations from someone who knows you well rather go for titles. It would be a good idea to get reco from one of the other founders from your start-up.

Career goals and schools:

Do have clarity of career goals. What Industry, function and role post MBA, what skills you don't possess, what skills already have and how MBA can help you to achieve those goals.

I would recommend to shortlist the schools, which align with your career goals. Do list down what you want to achieve in the MBA program - what you want to accomplish at the school and the skills you need to develop. For example you mentioned few one-year programs. You need to demonstrate how you would cope with the rigor of a short duration program.

I would encourage you to apply in round 1 of next academic year to improve your chances of admission and aim for a scholarship. You can use the time to craft your career goals to detail out all the aspects of the profile: goals, listing on the skills you have and need to develop and reasons for why MBA.
