Well you certainly have some good things going for you.

Your GMAT is an obvious one (sweet pull, dude!) and your industry is one of the best to be in these days (jobs galore!).
I'm not sure exactly what it means or how much influence/prestige it carries, but working as Presiding Officer for State Assembly elections sounds very nice and political (Schools LOVE that).

Regarding your school list, I would have to say that it doesn't make all that much sense in regards to your goals (although it may not matter that much ultimately). What I mean is that the schools you have chosen for the most part send very few people to industry jobs and are not necessarily well-connected in your industry. Now, general prestige is always good (Can't see how getting into Stanford can ever hurt! not Harvard either , but really I do know (and you probably know this better than me) that your industry can also be very network-based. Now, although your personal preference may be for big city, famously, the oil jobs and industries tend not to be on the coasts. And for Oil and Gas, schools like Austin, Rice, Jones are excellent (although perhaps not globally ranked for what you can make... but it does not necessarily mean that they are better). Haas also famously has an energy program (focused on clean energy), and that is probably the highest-ranked school in your industry, and for sure should be on your list (as well as one or two of the Texan schools, even if it is as your backup school)

How's that for starters???

Got dinged by HBS :(

Maybe it was the GPA,maybe my company's brand-name.
Rest all were solid.Or maybe nothing is solid for HBS.The human brain has such tendency to analyze after facing a failure :)

The fact that HBS is one of the 1st to give out ding decisions does make you doubt yourself a bit.

Nevertheless, life goes on.Hope,I get into any of the other schools.

Life does go on for sure. There always options, and always (well most of the time anyhow...) second chances. But do let us know how the rest goes for you.

Hi,

Request a profile evaluation from all you very cool people.

-28 years old
-B.Tech, Chemical Engineering from NIT Jaipur. GPA 6.76/10. [2.7/4]
-Integrated Course on Global Change and Sustainability from United Nations University, Tokyo
-Working in Fortune 500 Public Sector firm in Oil and Gas Industry
-Work Experience: 5 years as territory in charge, B2B Marketing.
-International level quizzer
-Sports and Extracurricular activities decent.
-Have done very impactful three Social service initiatives in my city but have no paperwork to prove it. First involved starting an initiative to teach tribal kids with the help of local college groups. Organized Blood Banks in collaboration with railways. Food for daily wage workers in co-operation with a local NGO.

I look forward to do a program which specializes in one of the following fields
-Energy/Renewable Energy/Oil and Gas
-Sustainability

I have given GMAT once but I score a dismal 620. I will be taking it again in August. An advice on what range should I look for given my profile would be much appreciated.

I request my profile evaluation for ISB, Wharton, HBS, NUS.

Also it would be great if some programs can be recommended to me given my profile and preferences.

I plan to leave my job and join some NGO/Social Initiative to improve my profile. I would request an opinion on that since quitting this rather high paying job will be a major decision for me.

Cannot thank you enough,
Hi5

Kuna,
I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you need to moderate your school choice a bit. You have a low GMAT, a so-so GPA from an non IIT school, and middle of the road extra curriculars. HBS and Wharton are likely out of reach for you even with a 720+ GMAT (although that doesn't mean you should not try to apply to one or two, but that if these schools are the only ones you are applying to, I fear your strategy may be overly ambitious).

Anyhow, for the moment don't worry about which school, just concentrate on getting your GMAT up as high as you can, and once you h ave your grade, THEN build your school list.

Good luck on your retake!
