Profile Eval: Urgent .

by hopeforharvard » Sat Jun 13, 2015 9:53 am
Hello guys,
I'm currently in my 3rd year of engineering at one of the top Anna University colleges in Chennai.
Here is my profile,
10th=98%
12th=95% with highest mark in the country in Comp Science and got a recognition from the CBSE.

College GPA will end up between (7.5-8)/10

GMAT 720(Q 50 V 37)

Internships:
At an investment banking startup,
At one of the top 3 rating companies in the world,
At a big 4 audit firm,
At a Wildlife conservation organization that shared it's initials once with a wrestling company Razz

Extra curriculars:
Club level badminton player,
I also play an instrument,
Quizzer,
raised money for a lot of college events,
Social service includes gathering people for blood donation camps and getting people to pledge their eyes.
Also had a failed startup company Razz

I'm looking at the following programs:
ISB YLP
SP Jain
HBS 2+2
Yale Silver Scholars(chances are minuscule as around 10 students only get admitted each year)
IESE YTP
Booth Early Entry
Stanford Deferred Admission
Wharton Early Candidate

I am also keeping the MiM programs in mind and am considering the following colleges as well:
LBS
IE
HEC
Ross
Duke
Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame
NUS
Also looking at the MPhil Management program at Judge

I'd like you to comment on my profile and provide constructive feedback, advice and what you think my chances are at the above mentioned schools.
If possible I'd like you to suggest a few admission consultants who charge reasonably as I'm going to be funding the whole application process with what I've saved and have no external help from my parents at this point of time.

IMPORTANT:I'd like to know how a GPA of 7.5-8 out of 10 would be viewed by the adcoms. The university follows absolute grading and it is tough to score.

Hi HopeforHarvard,
After a quick review of your profile, I think you should definitely take a shot at the 2+2-type programs for top business schools. These schools will be familiar with the grading system in India, because they admit candidates from Indian universities all the time. All of the top MBA programs have a very low admissions rate, so that's something you will want to bear in mind when you assess your chances.

I didn't see a lot of clear leadership in your profile, so that's something you'll want to emphasize, or if you haven't been taking on leadership roles in your university/community engagements, crank up your involvements. "Leadership" in this case means leading other people, so you'll want to be sure we see both your own title and the number of people you lead in each instance. Leadership is a major driver of b-school admissions.

You asked about recommendations for admissions consultants: since I work for Stacy Blackman Consulting, it would be hard for me to give an unbiased opinion. There are a lot of great consultants out there; I happen to think ours are the best, but you'll want to shop around, talk to a few companies, and make a well-researched choice.

Good luck!
