If x and y are greater than 0, is x=1?

1) x/y = 1
2) xy=1

Statement 1 tells us x = 1y -> n.s.
Statement 2 tells us x = 1/y -> n.s.

So now taking 1 + 2, we get: y^2=1 -> y=1 or y=-1
Therefore x is neg or pos 1 ... hence ans is E...

Where am I wrong? cause OA is C...

.
If X and Y are greater than O, believe me X is not equal to 0

Check for any typos.

You stems itself answers the question. I wish this were the case atleast for a DS question in real exam

If x and y are greater than 0, is x=0?

1) x/y = 1
2) xy=1

Stmt I

x/y=1 -> x=y

x=-1 y = -1 x/y=1 but x <> 1
x=1 y=1 x/y=1 and x=1

INSUFF

Stmt II

xy=1
x=1/2 y=2 xy=1
x=1 y=1 xy=1

INSUFF

Combined

x=y

xy=1

x^2=1 (since x=y)

x = +/- 1 but its given x > 0 therefore x=1

C)

Smallsorrow,
If possible please edit the original post so that it reflects the correct question.

Remember X and Y are both greater than 0, so -1 is not a possible answer choice :D
