Test an analogous case with easier values:
2 - 2³ - 2² - 2¹ = 16 - 8 - 4 - 2 = 2¹
The matching blue portions imply the following:
2² - 2¹ - 2¹ - 2¹ = 2¹

The correct answer is C.

=>

2^20-2^19-2^18-2^17
=2^32^17- 2^22^17-2^12^17-2^17
= 2^17 (8-4-2-1)
= 2^17(1)
= 2^17

Therefore, the answer is C.
