An airplane engine manufacturer developed a new engine model with safety features lacking in the earlier model, which was still being manufactured. During the first year that both were sold, the earlier model far outsold the new model; the manufacturer thus concluded that safety was not the customers' primary consideration.

Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the manufacturer's conclusion?

(A) Both private plane owners and commercial airlines buy engines from this airplane engine manufacturer.
(B) Many customers consider earlier engine models better safety risks than new engine models, since more is usually known about the safety of the earlier models.
(C) Many customers of this airplane engine manufacturer also bought airplane engines from manufacturers who did not provide additional safety features in their newer models.
(D) The newer engine model can be used in all planes in which the earlier engine model can be used.
(E) There was no significant difference in price between the newer engine model and the earlier engine model.

Option A :- INCORRECT
Because both private and commercial airlines buy engines from this same airplane engine manufacturer doesn't lead to the conclusion that safety is not their primary consideration.

Option B :- CORRECT
This option most seriously weakens the manufacturer's argument because even in the known world today, people are more comfortable with products or models they are familiar with than that of new ones, which most possibly led to the reason why the old model sold more than the new ones. The major reason for not buying the new engine is because the old engine has been known for its safety which means that the major concern of the buyer is safety as against the manufacturer's conclusion.

Option C :- INCORRECT
Well, this doesn't really mean that they are not concerned about safety . They are just ignorant.

Option D :- INCORRECT
If true that the newer engine model can be used in all planes that the earlier model can be used, this fact will help to increase the sales of the new engine model and doesn't weaken the manufacturer's conclusion in anyway.

Option E :- INCORRECT
This option doesn't lead to the fact that safety is not the customer's primary consideration, therefore it doesn't weaken the conclusion, besides no significant difference in price between the two engines can help to boost the sales and use the of the new engine.
