The claim that basketball is the most popular spectator sport in America is certainly false. After all, while only 5% of Americans admit to having played in a basketball game over the last year, nearly 40% competed in a running event. In fact, more Americans ran a full marathon than played in an organized basketball game last year.

Which of the following most weakens the argument above?

A. Not all people who participate in a sport are also spectators of that sport.
B. People who play basketball tend to participate in their sport more frequently than do those who run.
C. Not everyone who participates in a running event runs the entire race, as many walk part of their event.
D. It is generally less expensive to play organized basketball than to take part in a running event.
E. Most people who play basketball also participate in running events.

The main concern of this argument depicts that most Americans participate in running events than basketball.

OPTION A :- CORRECT
This question opposes the claim and weakens the argument because it believes and can be interpreted as; not all American who participated in full marathon can also be around spectators of it.

OPTION B :- INCORRECT
If people who play basketball tend to participate more in their sport than those who run, it doesn't change the concern of the argument because its still the same 5% who play basketball and speculate.

OPTION C :- INCORRECT
The argument is not concerned about who walks or not during a running event. It is concerned about the sport with the most spectators in America.

OPTION D :- INCORRECT
The option serves as a solution to the argument because, if it is generally less expensive to play organised basketball than that of a running event, it could be a means to get more people to play basketball as well as to get spectators.

OPTION E :- INCORRECT
If those who participated in basketball also participated in the running event, it doesn't affect the argument in any way because it is possible to participate in more than one sport.
