In other words: 6x = 9 + x
Subtract x from both sides: 5x = 9
Divide both sides by 5 to get: x = 9/5

Hi All,
We're told that when 6 is multiplied by X, the result is the SAME as when X is added to 9. We're asked for the value of X/3. When dealing with GMAT questions, it's important to make sure that you answer the question that is ASKED. Here, we're NOT asked for the value of X, we're asked for the value of X/3. This prompt is essentially just about doing some basic Algebra/Arithmetic.
Based on the first sentence, we can create the following equation:
6(X) = X + 9
6X = X + 9
5X = 9
X = 9/5
Now, we have one more step to answer the question - divide by 3...
(9/5)/3 = 9/15 = 3/5
Final Answer: B

6x = x + 9
5x = 9
x = 9/5
Thus x/3 is (9/5)/3 = 9/15 = 3/5.
