Question: What is the value of x + y?

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) 6 is halfway between x and y.

=> 6 is the arithmetic mean of x and y. Thus, (x + y)/2 = 6 => x + y = 12. Sufficient.

(2) y = 2x.

Certainly insufficient.

The correct answer: A

Hope this helps!
