Hi All,
We're told that Machine X can make 40 widgets in 8 minutes. We're asked for the number of widgets it can make in 1 hour. This question is a straight-forward rate question and you can probably see that you can quickly determine the rate (in widgets/minute) of the Machine.
40 widgets/8 minutes = 5 widgets/minute
Over the course of 1 hour (re: 60 minutes), Machine X would create (5)(60) = 300 units.
Final Answer: D

Since 1 hour is 60 minutes, Machine X can make 40/8 x 60 = 5 x 60 = 300 widgets.BTGmoderatorLU wrote:Source: Magoosh

Alternate solution:
We can set up a proportion in which x is the number of widgets that can be made in 1 hour, or 60 minutes:
40/8 = x/60
5 = x/60
300 = x
