On Monday morning a certain machine ran continuously at a uniform rate to fill a production order. At what time did it completely fill the order that morning?

(1) The machine began filling the order at 9:30 a.m.
(2) The machine had filled 1/2 of the order by 10:30 a.m. and 5/6 of the order by 11:10 a.m.

Statement 1: It alone is certainly not sufficient for we do not know the rate of the machine.

Statement 2: The machine had filled 1/2 of the order by 10:30 a.m. and 5/6 of the order by 11:10 a.m.

=> Between 11:10 am to 10:30 am, i.e., in 40 minutes, the machine filled 5/6 - 1/2 = 1/3 of the order

The part of the order remaining after 11:10 am = 1 - 5/6 = 1/6 of the order

=> It will take another 40/2 minutes = 20 minutes to fill the order. So, the order is complete by 11:10 + 20" = 11:30 am.

The correct answer: B
