The 36th prime number must be ODD.
When an odd number is divided by 2, the remainder is 1.

The correct answer is C.

A remainder must be a nonnegative integer.
If this problem were to appear on the GMAT, option A -- a negative integer -- would not be offered as an answer choice.

All prime numbers but 2 are odd integers.
Thus, the remainder when N is divided by 2 is 1.

Therefore, the answer is C.
