Sheila works 8 hours per day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 6 hours per day on Tuesday and Thursday. She does not work on Saturday and Sunday. She earns $324 per week. How much does she earn in dollars per hour?
A. 11
B. 10
C. 9
D. 8
E. 7
The OA is C.
I get the solution as follows,
Total hours worked weekly = 36
earning per hour = 324/36
Without long division, look to answer choices to get a number when multiplied by 36 gives unit digit of 4. It is only 9. Option C.
Please, can anyone explain another way to solve this PS question? Thanks!

We can avoid long division if we make an important observation.BTGmoderatorLU wrote:Sheila works 8 hours per day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 6 hours per day on Tuesday and Thursday. Let's take it from the point were you got: earning per hour = $324/36
You might notice that $360/36 = $10
Also notice that $324 = $360 - $36
So, $324/36 = ( $360 - $36)/36
= $360/36 - $36/36
= 10 - 1 = 9
= Answer choice C
