A is useless. Why would it matter that the number of new women beer-drinkers is greater than the number of men who have stopped drinking beer? It seems as though this answer choice is attempting to fool an unsophisticated reader into thinking that the net effect here will be that the total number of beer-drinking adults has gone up. Clearly, that doesn't have to be the case. First, we don't know how many women have stopped drinking beer or how many new male beer-drinkers there are. More importantly, we're told that the total number of beer-drinking adults is down. How this smaller beer-drinking population breaks down along gender lines is irrelevant.
