In what year was Edward born?

(1) In 1988, Edward turned 17 years old.
(2) Edward's sister Lisa, who is 14 months older than Edward, was born in 1970

OA is A.

Why statement (2) is not sufficient? I don't understand. Experts, can you help me.

GMAT Data Sufficiency questions often provide date that seems to be sufficient for arriving at an exact value but is not. With that idea, in mind consider the following aspects of this question.

A year is not a single point in time, but rather a long time period.

Also, we know what year his sister was born in but not her exact age.

So, think about it. Does Statement 2 seem sufficient now?

If Lisa was born in Jan'70, Edward was born in March'71. But if Lisa was born in Dec'70, Edward was born in Feb'72. Insufficient.

The correct answer: A
