Let g=200 cents, implying that the gas cost per mile = $2.ardz24 wrote:It costs g cents a mile for gasoline and m cents a mile for all other costs to run a car. How many dollars will it cost to run the car for 100 miles?
(A) (g + m)/100
(B) 100g + 100m
(C) g + m
(D) g + .1m
(E) g
Let m=300 cents, implying that the gas cost per mile = $3.
Total cost per mile = 2+3 = $5.
Thus, the total cost for 100 miles = 100*5 = $500.
Since the question stem asks for the cost, in dollars, for 100 miles, the target value is 500.
Now plug g=200 and m=300 into the answers to see which yields the target value of 500.
Only C works:
g + m = 200+300 = 500.
The correct answer is C.
