In the wake of World War I, the terms of the Versailles treaty restricted the size of the German army to no more than 100,000 troops, in essence demanding that its numbers be seven times smaller than in 1904.

B. treaty of Versailles demanded in essence that the German army will be seven times smaller than in 1904 and restricted its number to no more than 100,000 troops

D. treaty of Versailles restricted the German army's size and, in essence, demanded that its numbers be seven times smaller than in 1904 - no more than 100,000 troops
E. Versailles treaty restricted the size of the German army and demanded that, numbering no more than 100,000 troops, they be seven times smaller than in 1904

What is the best Option in this? What is wrong with Options B and C?
