GMATPrep: While the average American

by NandishSS » Thu Aug 03, 2017 8:42 pm
While the average American reads only two books per year, researchers have recently concluded that by reading two books per month, people can expect their memorizing capacity to double. The most effective way for Americans to begin to read two books per month - thus increasing their memory capacity - is to support Proposition 75, which will require students to read at least two books per month beginning in 2nd grade and through their senior year of high school.

Which of the following can be most properly drawn, if the statements above are true, about future reading habits and memorization capacity?

A. If Proposition 75 passes, all teen-agers will see a significant increase in their ability to memorize for tests.
B. Individuals who read 4 books per month are going to be twice as likely to remember long lists of information as those who only read 2 books per month.
C. If one already has an above average memory but only reads 2 books per year, their ability to remember information will not be influenced by increasing their reading to 2 books per month.
D. The kids with the best memories in high schools are those who read the most books.
E. If Proposition 75 passes, responsible high school students can expect their memories to increase.

The problem with answer choice A is that the wording is too strong. Just because there's a rule about reading 2 books a month doesn't mean that ALL students will actually read 2 books a month.
