Hello,
I have shortlisted a few universities based on my GMAT score first.
But as i progress on, i feel i need to shortlist them further with "program" rank, as in I want to major
in OPERATIONS. So universities with good ranking in OPERATIONS is what i feel should be considered.
I am very confused because there are certain universities such as SMEAL which has an overall rank of 41 but has its OPERATIONS program ranked 17.
I dont know which to concentrate and weigh.
Kindly please provide your inputs.
Please tell what i should concentrate on
PS: I am an international applicant. Please consider job opportunites as well
Thanks
Karthik

Generally, competition for the admission is defined by overall fame for that school and overall international rankings. For example, National University of Singapore is ranked 5th in the world in the chemical engineering department, even better than Oxford. But, in overall ranking it is placed in 12th position (Based on QS ranking). So, do you think NUS is getting more applications than Oxford?
So, overall competition is based on overall ranking and Fame for its name. All the very best.

Once you've shortlisted programs through program rank, you should further whittle down the list by looking at their recruitment stats, organizations which recruit etc. That's key. You should also try speaking to current students/ alumni or career management office to get answers to your queries which you think haven't been answered by the web-based resources.

The truth is: concentration rankings dont matter. Only the regular rankings. What can matter sometimes is location, as schools outside Top20 tend to be quite regional. But just ignore the operations rankings. You can learn operations at any MBA.

Jon

Hi Karthik,
Yup, you can definitely consider operations ranking in short listing schools. It is good that you consider post MBA career goal for short listing schools. You should also mainly look at over all ranking as a criteria for short listing B-Schools.
Please share more details about your profile mentioning your GMAT score, work experience, target geographic regions as this will help me to shortlist few B-Schools for you.
You can also try our B-School selector tool, visit (https://www.genedmba.com/b-school-selec ... kMon52FJz9) to shortlist B-Schools.
Feel free to reach us anytime.

Abbas
