720 GMAT - Quant too weak?

by MBAClassof11 » Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:02 pm
I recently took the GMAT and scored a 720 (Q46, V44). My question is whether the Quant percentile (77%) is too low to be competitive in top 10 schools?

I attended a large, average ranked State school in the U.S. and majored in Finance with a 3.92 GPA. I am currently working as a Financial Analyst for a Fortune 500 company (1+ yr in finance, 2 years at same company in Global Purchasing). Do you feel that my work experience, coupled with my degree, can make up for the slightly disappointing quant score.

Please let me know your thoughts on the subject.

Thanks!

Dear MBAClassof11,

First of all, congratulations on your GMAT score. It is not weak nor is the quant score weak. I think your GPA and work experience, in addition to the GMAT, demonstrate your ability to succeed in business school. I would channel your energy into your applications at this point and stop worrying about your quantitative percentile. Just my 2 cents...

Good luck,
Lisa
