Hello - I'm hoping someone can help gauge my probability of getting into the following programs:Harvard, Wharton, Chicago, Kellogg, Columbia, UVA
Below is some background information:
Undergrad: Finance at Small Liberal Arts School with Decent Business School: GPA 3.7
GMAT 710: Q44/V44 - Considering retake but trying to allocate my time wisely
Citizenship: Colombian - Born in Colombia, moved to USA when I was 12
Work Experience: Liquidity management for bank with 300+ billion in assets. 2 Promotions, faster than usual (Graduated in 2013 and have been working for 3 years, will apply for incoming class next fall)
Extracurricular: Strong throughout undergrad (Treasurer for 2 big organizations, volunteer experience). After graduation I have taken a lead role in recruiting and hold a leadership position on our diversity recruiting team. Have also done small amount of volunteer work with the company
Letters: Coming from director and VPs who have been very close to my work and can speak to my abilities
My goal for an MBA is to transition to working in emerging markets throughout Latin America. This can be in the form of consulting or in-house for a company that is looking to expand and grow within these regions.
Any guidance here would be great - particularly, I'm trying to determine whether to study for and retake the exam or just focus on the rest of the application.
Thanks!
Juan

Hey Juan!
So I see good stuff all over.
As a Colombian applicant you are off to a good start, since really not that many Colombians apply to business school, and schools do like Latin American candidates.
Plus you have good grades and a good GPA.
Your work experience seems pretty good, and your fast promotion track is certainly excellent.
I think with this profile you are for sure good to go in Top 20 and likely Top10 too.
However for the top5, I feel like I'm missing some oomph here, something unique, something personal... That will tell the Adcom "I am Juan" that will differentiate, not only because of your background, but because of who you really are.
And I would say that is the main thing to work at this point.
Best,
Jon

Thanks Jon! That sure is reassuring . I can focus on the oomph aspect through my essays since those may be my best option for doing so. Should I be concerned with my low GMAT quant score as potential make or break for these schools, or do you think the adcom look at my work experience / undergrad major and grades and thus feel good about my quant abilities. I'm devoting a good amount of time to studying because I feel like the 44Q may be the reason why I'm turned down by some of the schools.

Hey Juan,
Well if there is a concern it would be minor, and you could always allay their concerns by showing a plan or willingness to take some pre-MBA quant courses.
But it's not a major thing. The major thing is your essays.
