Profile evaluation

by Simi@123 » Tue Sep 13, 2016 9:49 pm
Hello! I am an INDIAN female planning for MBA 2017 in USA.
I would like you to evaluate my profile as below

Age: 28 yrs
GMAT: 730
Undergrad : Bachelor of Technology ( Mechanical Engineering)from one of top 20 INDIAN schools
CGPA : 7.21/10 . AS it is on lower side ,I guess this is could be an issue but I have performed well in last 4 semesters.

Work exp : 7 years of project management experience in Hydrocarbon/Oil & gas business unit of one of INDIA's biggest Engineering, Procurement & Construction firm. With my mechanical engineering background, I have worked on both INDIAN & Middle -east oil & gas jobs and have been in leadership functional roles like - managing client & vendors, leading team of 7-8 members from different sub-functions, engineering management , construction management , risk management, managing techno-commercial proposals etc.

Extra -curricular:
- Organised various inter-college DEBATE competitions in undergrad school
- Currently involved in my firm's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities with local NGO . I have lead mini-projects under CSR such as playschool renovation project in local villages, food & med kit distribution to underprivileged, health & sanitation for underprivileged kids etc.

Post MBA goal : I am looking to change my current field & hence planning for MBA .
I wish to get into management consulting. My plan B would be getting into operations.

I have shortlisted few schools - UT McCombs,CMU TEPPER, Kelley, Eli Broad, Vanderblit (Owen), ASU CAREY and SMEAL . Could you please advise me what would be my chances at getting into these schools with scholarship?
You may correct me and suggest different schools which will help me meet my goal.

Please inform if I need to provide additional details in any case.

Looking forward to your reply!

Hey dude,
Great to hear from you!
Overall I like your profile. You have some weaknesses (school and GPA) but also some good strengths (Oil and Gas and your fantastic GMAT!!!)

I also really like your leadership and I would say that it is the main point to hit up on your application.

I think your school list is well made and reasonable, I would only add two suggestions - Haas as a stretch school and Rice as a safe school. Rice, even if it is a bit lower ranked has AWESOME placement in Oil and Gas (its the Texas thing) so you should fit right in, and may even get offered some scholarship money thanks to your great GMAT

Best of luck!
and if you need help with your application materials drop us a line!
