Coordinate Geometry

If the x-coordinate of point E is 4, what is its y-coordinate?

a) -1/2
b) 1
c) 3/2
d) 2
e) 7/2

Answer is 1.

Hi Pawan,

With the points given we can form the equation of line as follows
Point 1: (0,3)
Point 2: (6,0)

Slope of line passing through Point 1 and Point 2:

m=(0-3)/(6-0)=-1/2

Therefore equation of line is
y=mx + c(y intercept )

y=-(1/2)x + 3

Now substituting x-coordinate of point E in the given equation
Given X=4 .

y=-(1/2)*4 +3
=1

Clearly we get answer option B
