Profile Evaluation Reuest

by vandanaj » Fri Aug 05, 2016 7:40 pm
Hi!

I am Vandana,24 years old, from India.
GMAT : 710
GPA : 3.7
Education:
10th : 90.6%
13% : 83%
Undergrad : Bachelors in Technology, Computer Science Engineering.
Working since past 2 years at Bank of America Continuum Pvt. Ltd., as a Senior Technical Associate.
I have several certifications in finance related topics and have an award too for an outstanding performance.

I am halfway through Competent Communicator manual of Toastmasters International and have won few speech contests. I would be done with this manual by September end.

Volunteer Experience:
I am an active member of the volunteering arm of Bank of America, called Team Aspire in which we adopt schools for underprivileged adults and teach them ourselves. I also taught in a community school in Assam during last summer, for 15 days. Back in college, I co-founded Teach for Vellore, which works on similar grounds as Teach for America or Teach for India.

I want to pursue MBA (yet to decide between Finance and General Management) in 2017 and wish to know my chances. Wharton, Harvard and Stern Business School are my dream colleges. Apart from these, I have the below listed colleges in mind:
NUS Singapore
HEC Paris
Cornell
INSEAD
Columbia, NY
Booth
Haas
Rotterdam
Ross

Can you please help me here and help me list which all colleges I do have chance. Also, how I can make my application stand out.
Also, could you help me with my application process.

Regards
Vandana

Hey Vandana,
Truly great to hear from you!!

Overall your profile is quite nice.
You come from a strong industry (banking, even if you are in IT :) ), are a female candidate and have good and solid GMAT and GPA.

Your volunteer work is quite impressive as well.

A few thoughts though:
- For an Indian candidate your GMAT might be a bit low for the Top 10 schools. From what I have been seeing, Indian GMATs in Top 10 schools are likely to be 20-30 points more than the average - so around 740. If you believe you can score higher, you might want to try and do so: https://admissionado.com/mba/to-retake-o ... n=mba_blog

- If you didn't attend an IIT/NIT, your chances at Top 10 are not going to be high. The vast majority of Indian candidates who go to top schools come from these schools alone.

- Your volunteer work is truly fantastic and you should exploit this in your story.

I think from your list, schools like Booth and Columbia are likely dream schools. INSEAD and Hass should be on the tough side.. Ross, Cornell and HEC should be competitive. And Rotterdam could be a good safe school for you.

I could advise you further on your MBA school list, but I would need to know more about you and your goals, and what your criteria for selecting schools are.

Hi Jon!

Thanks a ton for evaluation. I have submitted a request for consultation at Admissionado. Just one more question, can you give me an idea on which all good colleges according to you I have a good shot in.
This would really help me in deciding if I should retake the GMAT, given that Round 1 for quite a bunch of these colleges have deadlines in September.
