We start with 40.
We sell half, so we're left with 20.
We then sell 80% of the rest, or 80% of 20, or 16.
So we're left with 20 - 16 => 4.

We see that 1/2 x 40 = 20 dozen rolls were sold by noon and 0.8 x 20 = 16 dozen rolls were sold between noon and closing time. Thus we have 40 - 20 - 16 = 4 dozen rolls left unsold.boomgoesthegmat wrote:A bakery opened yesterday with its daily supply of 40 dozen rolls.
