Oil and Gas Focus

by Slappy Sanchez » Wed Dec 31, 2014 4:11 pm
Hi all,

I am looking for business schools that have just as great a reputation as they do a focus in the oil and gas sectors. I have researched programs out there and Tulane University, UT-Austin, Rice, and Haas come up constantly, but what are some other programs that I should look into?

Hello

You are indeed correct. McCombs, Jones and Rice are some of the top schools for MBA with a specialization in the energy sector. UT-Austin McCombs tops the list, mostly because of its location. However, you will also find that Harvard Business School, Wharton, Northeastern - Kellogg, MIT - Sloan and Chicago - Booth also feature in the list.

This is based on the number of alumni working in the energy sector currently. For more details you can go through this article https://www.interviewbay.com/blog/top-bu ... rgy-sector

UT-Austin McCombs has a separate concentration on clean tech with a complete range of compulsory and elective courses https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/MBA/Full- ... /CleanTech

MIT offers a certificate on sustainability but no coursework in oil and natural gas specifically. However, the sustainability initiative of MIT provides great opportunities to grow in this field. Harvard offers electives in sustainability. Wharton offers a major in in environmental and risk management, and you can also take up coursework from the school of engineering.

In general, the top business schools that also feature in the top 10 list of engineering schools will offer you the best opportunities in the oil and natural gas sector.

All the Best

McCombs hands down. They also host an annual Energy Finance case competition. You will also be close to the energy capital of the world in Houston. Plus, Austin is a great town to spend two years in. You will not regret it!
