Target question: What is the value of k?candygal79 wrote:If the product of the three digits of the positive integer k is 14, what is the value of k ?
1) k is an odd integer
2) k< 700
Given: The product of the three digits of the positive integer k is 14
Since 14 = (2)(7), there are several possible values of k. They are: 127, 172, 271, 217, 712 and 721
Statement 1: k is an odd integer
k could equal 127, 271, 217 or 721
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: k< 700
k could equal 127, 172, 271 or 217
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Statements 1 and 2 combined
k could still equal 127, 271 or 217
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, the combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT
Answer = E
