Is It because I tried calculating the distance basis average speed?

First tip is to calculate what his speed would be to travel exactly 6 miles in 30 minutes...

6 miles/.5hours = 17.ft/sec

This ends up making the answer E because he could have been traveling faster or slower than this, making the distance either more or less than 6 miles.
