The use of 'is' with how

Which of the following is correct?

1)How are uncle and aunt doing?
2)How is uncle and aunt doing?

1. looks correct to me. Can someone confirm?

Yes.. "Aunt and uncle" are a combined plural subject. That requires a plural verb -- are.
