Statement 1:
|1 - a | = 5
If 1 - a = 5 ==> a = -4
If a - 1 = 5 ==> a = 6

a^2 - 2a - 24 = 0
a^2 - 6a + 4a - 24 = 0
a(a - 6) + 4(a - 6) = 0
(a + 4) (a - 6) = 0
a = -4 or 6
