Is number of GMAT attempts also a criterion for b-schools?

Hi Everyone!!

I have a concern and would request you all to address it. I have already appeared for GMAT twice with scores of 620 and 570 respectively. My second attempt surprised me and as a result, I am planning to take it slow now. I am aiming at Round 2 of Application. However, I am also concerned about the impact of number of attempts can have on selection process for b-schools. Does a 3rd attempt at GMAT make me less preferable during selection process?

I assume (and hope) that the number of times doesn't matter (maybe even it could show persistence) since they just check to verify the highest score you reported in your application, but if anyone knows otherwise I would like to know as well!

I'd say up until three times it's pretty standard. If you take it more it's also okay, but at least make sure your score is going up. Most important though is the score itself.

Many people have taken the GMAT up to 3 times with fluctuating scores, and still managed to get into their target schools - so, unless the Admission Committee of the school says that they will take an average of your GMAT scores, you are pretty much safe.

The best thing to do is to write to the AdCom of your target schools and get their specific view on multiple GMAT scores.
