Lavanya,
I'd love to advise you, but first I have a few questions:
As Central Business Manager do you have any leadership to speak of? Do you manage any people? Do you lead any training efforts? Also, do you have leadership anywhere else in your profile?

Hi Jon,

Target Schools: UCLA, Booth and Kellogg(Part time).

I did not manage any directs. I always felt the name -Central Business Manager was misleading. Here is a snapshot of my role as a CBM-

Managed a budget of 130M
Prepared and presented project financials, metrics, actual vs. budget report and variance analysis explaining financial trends to internal clients including technology owners and LOBs
Worked with project managers and executive management in creating processes to ensure accurate project reporting that is compliant with US GAAP
Partnered with executive management to develop expense reduction strategies and implement budget control processes
Developed a quarterly process to review and update expense requisition and cost center information for contractor time in the finance database
Reported capital and non-capital expenditures in accordance with SOP-98 guidelines
Management of resources including resource requirement analysis and resource spend
Vendor Management including reviewing financial contracts for vendors, discussing potential and current vendor contracts with business managers, and determining the most efficient choices for the company
Prepared departmental budgets, expense requisitions and aligned resources against them
Maintained and supported allocation models, expense requisitions, cost centers as well as the integrity of allocated technology costs to the Lines of Business

Thanks,
Lavanya

Lavanya,
I got it! and thanks for the update. I think that given your GMAT, your GPA, your career, these schools could be about right for you. KEllogg and Booth are tough and prestigious programs but for Part-Time they can be far more flexible than for full-time, and I think you can take your shot. I would have loved to see a few more schools on the list (three is a bit few, I find) but I don't know what your criteria are nor what your goals are.

I would also add that one thing I feel that will be key in evaluating your profile, will be its UNIQUENESS. I don't yet see what unique point you are bringing to the table, and it would be good to find one or two as you prepare your application!!!

Hope this helps you get started, and if you have any further questions do not hesitate!!!

Thanks Jon. I don't know yet whats really UNIQUE about me. I aspire to get an MBA with a focus on entertainment and media. I believe in the power of media to influence and inspire. I want to use it to showcase some of the global issues that are struggling to be heard. Growing up, I always wondered why my house help's children had to go to work and not go to school. This thought stayed with me and now I really want to be in a career where I can help push the society toward a positive change.

Well maybe it is something that will come up in the writing process. So don't worry about it for the moment, but DO keep it in mind.

And best of luck to you!!!!
