The formula for total people in an overlap problem like this is:

total directors = directors of k + directors of R - directors of both. This is because the overlap is counted twice, so we have to subtract off one instance. Thus, directors of both = directors of k + directors of R - total directors.

Statement 1 tells us total directors, but not directors of k nor directors of R. Thus, it is insufficient.

Statement 2 tells us directors of k and directors of R, but not total directors, so it is insufficient.

The two statements together tell us directors of k, directors of R, and total directors, so we have sufficient information to solve for directors of both. Thus, the answer is C.
