Essay length: 2 pg dilemma

Some colleges clearly mention that the essay should be 2 page or ~750 words. While others just mention no more than 2 pages. Does this really imply 2 page essay be double spaced and single spaced essays should be one page?

It doesn't necessarily imply that, you should check for the exact instructions regarding spaces, font size and word limits.
