Hi Johnlock,
This sounds like a complicated situation!

I think that you're right in that a full time program will be especially complicated for you right now, both because of your caregiving responsibilities and because of your age. However, there are many part time programs that you might consider. Stern certainly is a possibility, but you also might want to look into additional programs, depending on what you're looking for in terms of program style. Tepper, Haas, Ross, also offer part time programs as do other programs that are local to you including Babson and BU. In terms of why a part time program, and explaining that to the adcom, I think your family responsibilities are a very sound reason. It's also fine to explain to them, that your obligation has made it less easy for you to take on extra-curriculars.
