someone who changed the world?

by Equine99 » Tue Sep 04, 2012 1:37 pm
If an essays asks you to talk about a person who changed the way the world does business, do you have to only talk about one person? Is it acceptable to talk about two people who co-founded a company?

The full question is:

Give an example of a person who, in your opinion, has made a profound impact on the way the world does business. How will this person influence your contribution to your MBA Program?

Definitely, this essay prompt expects you to discuss at length about a person who, in your opinion, has influenced the business world. Make sure you substantiate your opinion by real-life examples.

The second part of the prompt tells you to explain how this person's perspective, philosophy and contribution to the business world has influenced your perceptions which you will bring with you and add value to the MBA program?

I hope it helped.:)

So if you have a company that you think really changed the world, and it was co-founded, should you just pick one of the co-founders? Alternatively, I know of one person who was responsible for two companies that I think changed the world/the way it does business--are two companies too much to talk about as they relate to one person?

Either works - you can pick a co-founder or an individual that has founded more than one company. Just try to keep the essay focused, there's not much space - and remember, this needs to be about you, not the person who changed the world!

Thanks for your response. Do you think it matters if that person is very well known? for example, a VC who had a big part in getting the companies off the ground?

No, less important who the person is - more important, how you can relate and the impact he or she has had.

The question is from LBS

It does not matter whether one person or a group or just a brand name. It matters is HOW the person did that and WHY you think that is remarkable and unique.

All these essays are creative writing, it does not matter whether you are talking about Bush or Harry Potter. What matters is, how you reason and articulate your views. What matters is, you should not confront some common belief (may true or false). You never know one of the ad-con member may be hell bent on your idea and he/she can play a spoil sports.
