Choices

A permanently altering the coastline and completely destroying

B causing permanent alterations to the coastline, and completely destroying

C altering the coastline permanently from its current form, and complete destruction of

D permanent alterations to the coastline, and complete destruction of

E permanent alterations to the coastline's form, and complete destruction in

D is correct.

A, B and C are incorrect because of parallelism error. Since we have total breakdown of the levee system and infiltration and contamination of the Mississippi River by salt water, so we cannot select the options which have words that end with "ing".

Hope this is the correct answer!

C altering the coastline permanently from its current form, and complete destruction of parallelism

D permanent alterations to the coastline, and complete destruction of Correct

E permanent alterations to the coastline's form, and complete destruction in

alterations to the coastline's form is redundant.complete destruction in is grammatically clear but the Original sentence mentions complete destruction of the wetlands not destruction in.
