Convincing arguments to get in

by calande » Wed May 28, 2008 1:28 am
Hello,

According to an mba.com survey, the top reasons for pursing a graduate MBA degree are:
  • Opportunity for more challenging and interesting work
  • Personal satisfaction and achievement
  • Long-term income and financial stability
  • Remaining marketable and competitive in a given industry
Personally, I plan to take an MBA for all of the above. I have an undergraduate degree in Management and I had an IT company that I sold. Now I'd like to work in the renewable energy industry. What do you think I can tell the admission juries to have them really convinced that they should pick me?
Thanks

Hi Cal,
Thanks for your post. Those are all great reasons to pursue the MBA.

With your situation, it is important to sell AdCom on your desire to switch careers and why an MBA (from their school) is crucial to achieve your career goals.

Think about the following -

* Why do you want to switch from IT to Renew. Energy? What evidence in your personal interests or previous experience demonstrates your ability to succeed in this field (you dont need industry experience, but what interests/skills do you have that will help you succeed).

* How will the school's MBA program help you make the transition and also help you succeed in your post-MBA short/long term career? For example, what specific resources will you use to enable your industry switch (i.e. classes, clubs, events).

Have a clear sense of these questions will help sell AdCom on your strong interest in their school's MBA program.

Good luck!

NP
